Fixing Hatfield 12ga Semi-auto? So while cleaning this $200 piece of garbage, there was a piece, the rear part of the gas valve assembly, that has a rubber o-ring that fits to an recessed area. Well that rubber o-ring is now broken. My question is What does that rubber o-ring do other than possibly keep some gas and dirt out of the spring area.

The shell comes from the magazine tube and goes between the breech bolt and the shell lifter.
