I kept pulling and pushing on the switch hoping for it to engage and then finally it started. It was very cold this day and so I blew snow for about 10 minutes and went inside just to warm up.
Tractor. JD 4310,JD5420. We have a 5420 with the power reverser tranny. It is a 4 speed with A,B &C ranges. It is almost 12 years old, but only has maybe 500 hours on it. So far so good with the clutch. With this type of tranny, you can move the reverser lever from forward to reverse without depressing the clutch.

Take your multimeter, switch it to Volts, and place the positive (red) probe on the positive terminal of the mower battery. Take the negative (black) probe and place it on a metal part of the engine.
