It seems I'm having this issue every time I strip the gun. It seems like the recoil spring pops out of the spot it sits on the barrel when I push the slide back to put the takedown pin back in. It’s pretty obvious why the feed ramp needs to be a smooth, polished surface. The nose of the bullet must slide over and through this concave surface to enter the chamber. If the surface is too rough or is nicked or burred, the bullet can get stuck. However, it’s less apparent why the bolt face needs to be smooth.

The slide would stay locked back when there were still rounds in the magazine. This happened more than once. Plus often when you put a new (loaded) magazine in and pull the slide back to put a round in the chamber the slide got stuck in the back position. Did a bit of research online and it seems to be a fairly common problem.
