Disconnect your battery, unplug the reg/rect. and connect your meter (set to ohms) red lead to any of the three wires that go to the stator, black lead to frame ground.

The thermostat housing has a large black hose coming out of it; I think the metal tube the follows the hose has the bleeder screw on it. By the was check the weep hole at the base of the water pump.
