The Army used them until mildot was invented in 83. There is a Vietnam one that looks just like the Marine issue M40 in Nam, but it has the standard mildot reticle.
The 30AS is the Marlin labeled version of the Glenfield 30A. It's a budget 336 and a great little lever gun. I picked one up a few months ago from a family member and it was originally my father-in-law's gun. Currently it is my project rifle. Enjoy it, they are usually good shooters. The Glenfield 30A was produced from around 1971/1972 to about 1981/1982 when it became the Marlin Mod 30AS. They are a quality Marlin made under the Glenfield name. They have the hardwood stocks, end cap and one barrel band, dovetailed front sight, and a non-folding rear sight---the rest of the rifle is pretty much the same as the Mod 336.

I'd like a 30-30 20" round barrel, blued, non ramped front sight as a base. The 336 has a ramped front sight :frown: The Glenfield 30A has the front sight post and forward barrel band which is a requirement for me. My second issue is for forend. I love the rear barrel band forend for the 336 but the 30A does not have that, it's a metal cap.
