I am not familiar with the OM617 numbers, but if it is a turbo, you would need to change the rear end ratio (higher=lower numerically) to get anything close to 30 MPG.

Just go 22re or 3rzfe and turbo it, they can make a-lot more power than either of the v6’s with better mpg. If you dont care about brand or resale value, go with a 6bt, maybe a 4bt but that has worse mpg, an om617 would work too but not nearly as reliable as a cummins LOTS of cutting and fitting but maybe it's an easier fit in a Ranger. The exhaust is pretty simple - just a pipe out of the engine bay. The first section of the Mercedes pipe will make the exhaust work easier. Any radiator for a 5.0/Ranger swap should handle the cooling. So, I bought a Jeep Wrangler and started my build. Later, I realized it seemed nobody had any hard evidence supporting their claims.
