A day later it was so loud you couldn't ignore it. Starts when you accelerate at lows speeds and by the time you're up to about 45/50mph it quiets down to the point where you only hear it slightly on heavy acceleration. The sound is almost like a roots/twin screw supercharger; like a dry gear turning really fast.

Diesel engines in general don't have a throttle, that's why you don't ever spray MAF cleaner directly on the intake, it can over rev.
