I don't think you can go wrong with either rifle. My choice would depend on my budget. I would choose the Tikka if I had the cash reserved to top it with decent glass. But, if it would only leave me with Barska quality optics to mount on the Tikka I would choose the American and put better glass on it. JMHO.The better a rifle is for hunting and carrying in the woods, the worse it is as a long range precision rifle. Then vise versa. Edit: Wow A1s have gone up. A 6.5 tikka CTR 24" will save you at least 1200, closer to 1500 if you can find a sale. Then a ruger or savage will run you ~650-700. Leaves you with 500-800 for ammo, optics or a chassis.The Tikka is one of the best rifles you can get for less than 1k. I'd say it's the best. The Savage is okay for a budget or beginner rifle, but they go on sale close to Christmas for 250-300 bucks. A great middle ground between the two is a Ruger American. For a couple hundred more than the Savage, you get a far better platform.
