The Ruger SFAR is not really anything new. POF did the same thing with the Rogue, and DPMS did the same thing even before that with the DPMS Gen 2. The added handguard compatibility with an AR-15 is nice, but no, the AR10 is far from dead. The large frame AR may not have a "standard", but there is a TON of aftermarket for LR308/SR25.

However, on the 16” vs 20” question, go 20” because the 16” with Mid-Length gas has been problematic. I had to switch the buffer spring to an M4 spring for it to be reliable on gas setting 2.
