This is based on my experience playing v4.0 4 times on normal, min grinding with species, ability and learnset randomizer. These were the teams I used for E4 clears: Run 1. Run 2. Run 3. Run 4. I had a great time playing with various combinations of ability and moves. There was many other mons I used throughout the journey.

Tl:dr. Scaled is the only randomizer option for Hardcore Mode. It randomizes encounter tables and gives you mons that are reasonable to obtain based on what point in the game you're at. So first-form mons by Brock, a lot of starters for example. By Misty, you start to get 2nd-form mons, and by Surge, some fully evolved mons.

In my opinion however, as much as I love it, I think torterra is the worst for later game, for fully evolved starters. With how much meta play is in the game a lot of teams run u-turn or flip-turn on fast pivots and so many teams have ice type checks like ice shard or ice type hp that just shut torterra down thanks to how slow it is. 2.
